"the pen'alty could have gone either way"

Sure, if it's at A field, PSG or even Frieburg and their losing 1-0 in injury time it's a penalty.

Team selection for Sunday will be interesting. Priority should be EL so I would rest Paqueta (who was looking tired), Emerson (probably unavailable anyway) and Zouma.

I'd start Scarles at LB but obviously Moyes will waste the opportunity and play Cresswell.

Give Antonio a game to get him up to speed as he will probably be needed off the bench next week.

Re: ⚽ SC Freiburg v West Ham - Official Match Thread
They were there for the taking but a tactically inept performance again together with an inability to use subs throws it away. Did he put the youngsters on the bench as a treat or are we really devoid of a youngster who can make a difference? Playing for a draw in a game we should have wrapped up is not good enough, when will the trash in our boardroom recognise fans do not invest time, energy and money in watching rubbish like this??

'I thought the subs were fantastic again. Antonio was great'

Barely any time. Actually came on and done the best pass i have ever seen him do!

Antonio and other subs were needed much sooner. Paqueta should have been withdrawn after 60 mins. Is it tactical to stick our best creative player furthest forward? He is so much more effective deeper. Seems to go up top when he is knackered and it doesn't work for us.

I thought Freiburg were pretty poor. We need to be better and much more intense next week. Playing for the draw always carries this risk.

Freiburg West Hammed us in a way whereby we, this time, had the better chances to win but they weathered that and scored the only goal of the game.

We still have a very good chance of progressing though.

Here’s a thought, had the end of game handball incident been the other way around, ball to West Ham arm, do you think the ref would have awarded them a penalty?

Re: ⚽ SC Freiburg v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Firstly, the penalty call could of gone either way as the handball law is farcical. But can you imagine the media fucking breakdown if that decision had gone against the scousers. Fucking hell they would want a replay, ban the ref, day of mourning, an increase in benefits and Klopp to become the next Pope

What's Peter Shilton up to these days? Maybe offer him a 3 month contract till the end of the season?

Rossal - They might upon up a little, but even at 1-0 they will likely play for pens. losing the first leg is never good, but at least it's not as bad as it would have been if the away goal rule was still in effect.

Moyes really knows how to change a game.

Agree Nick, think we need an early goal for them to open up a bit more

The thought of watching us struggle and go sideways trying to break down 10 behind the ball isnt the most exciting prospect

Paq and Kudus will have to be much better for us to have a chance

I hope that stupid little cunt in our end doing the Nazi salutes, and then calling on the West Ham fans telling him to pack it in, is suitably ashamed this morning.

Doubt it though, looked absolutely thick as mince.

Don’t really like seeing our own fighting, but he deserved every slap he got

Quoting what teams did tactically in the 1970's has to be a new low, surely?

Re: ⚽ SC Freiburg v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Need a quality, agile and strong CB to replace Zouma. Ogbonna looke better than him now but a risk as he gets no minutes.

Lack of pace and movement in midfield is a real issue. Tactically set up for slow build up and low tempo backand forth and the likes of Soucek and JWP are peripheral, Paqueta a show pony last night didnt help either.

Steidten needs to get 2 fast, athletic midfielders in. The Moyes recruitment of almost exclusively slow players like the aforementioned along with not giving youngsters some minutes really hurting us again. No variation in our play.

Season either falls away next 3 weeks or Moyes pulls off another Houdini act. Think Im erring to the former as so many gamesand just 13 or 14 players

I don’t get the optimism on us strolling to a win next week. It will be a really tight and boring affair. I can see it going to extra time. Same players treading water because they are fucking knackered

Re: ⚽ SC Freiburg v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
If Bowen would have put his chance away, or pay scored that header people would be praising Moyes. The reality is yesterday we didn’t play badly as zouma suggested. We played exactly how we always play. Keep it tight and hope some moment of brilliance from our best players bails us out.

Is it really any different to how we beat Brighton etc? I think we had 3 chances and scored 3 goals with 20% possession or something.

We will probably batter Freiburg at home because Moyes hasn’t got a choice now. And then wonder why we cant play like that every week.. it’s mental torture really. I dont think it’s worth moaning too much anymore. It’s like getting upset that a 90yr old keeps forgetting leaving the stove on.. nothing will change.

I’m just trying to enjoy what I can nowadays

Re: ⚽ SC Freiburg v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Exactly the same schtick as when Allardyce was nearing the end of his contract.

We were away at Man City, and the presenters couldn’t praise him enough before the game, be careful what you wish for was the prevailing sentiment. When the game got underway, and we had 28% possession, they couldn’t get enough of how feeble West Ham were compared to City.

There was a massive gap in joined up thinking that didn’t occur to anyone on commentary.

What made me laugh were the usual media cheerleaders bigging Moyes up before kick off "careful what you wish for", "what do west ham fans expect" blah cunting blah...at half time they started to question the ambition, suggesting we need to "step it up", "the players are chasing the ball" blah cunting blah...and at the end they are saying "its only half time in the tie", "they will get the job done at home"...blah cunting blah
